Jean S. Russell

Monson-Jean S. (Laforest) Russell, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on June 18, 1936, in Palmer, Massachusetts, Jean was the beloved daughter of Francis and Vernice (Smith) Laforest. Jean was born and raised in Palmer before moving to Monson in 1961, where she built a life filled with family, friendships, and cherished memories.

Jean was a woman of many passions. She found great joy in playing cards and spent countless evenings engaged in friendly competition and laughter. Her love for adventure took her on numerous cruises, and she relished the thrill of ocean fishing. Camping trips and family holiday gatherings were highlights of her life, creating treasured moments with those she loved most.

During her working life, she worked in medical records for Johnson Hospital in Stafford. For 30 years, Jean embraced the snowbird lifestyle, spending the colder months in Davenport, Florida, since 2005. Her time in Florida was enriched by her beloved dog, Oliver, whose companionship brought her immense happiness.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Carl E. Russell in 2018, her daughter, Carol Lynn Russell in 2004 and her daughter Kim, at birth. Her siblings, Loyce St. John, Helen Charette and Claire Kissman also predeceased her.

Her love and memory will remain with her children, Mark Russell, Theresa Picco and her husband Louie, and Kevin Russell all of Monson. She also is survived by her brother, Francis Laforest of Monson along with 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Visitation will be Saturday, Oct 31 from 9:30-10:30 am at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home with a service to begin at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Monson. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Monson Together Community Cupboard.
