Robert L Hanna

Brimfield-Robert L. Hanna, 76, well-known resident of Brimfield, passed away peacefully at his home on September 28, 2020. Born in Springfield on September 30, 1943, he was the son of Robert R. and Lucy E. L. Hanna. Bob has been a life-long resident of Brimfield. He graduated from Tantasqua Regional High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Bob will be remembered for his lifelong and selfless service to the Town of Brimfield. He served the town for 62 years in many capacities including Highway Surveyor, Fire Chief, Tree Warden, and Constable. He also worked as a truck driver for Friendly's Ice Cream for 18 years. Bob was a member of the board of directors for the Brimfield Ambulance Service. He was also an active EMT for many years along with a myriad of other town associated committees. He was a member of the First Congressional Church of Brimfield. Bob had a passion for nature and the outdoors including hunting and fishing with his friends and family. On Sundays, loved ones could find him cheering for his favorite Nascar driver. Having a passion for driving not only for work but leisurely, Bob took his family and friends on many adventures. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Janet Hanna of 53 years, along with their two daughters, Kirsten Weldon of Brimfield, Massachusetts, and Jennifer Hanna of Cumming, Georgia. Poppy's love, good advice, and support will be missed by his three grandchildren, Tiffany Weldon of Hudson, Massachusetts, Stephanie Burgener and her husband Alex of Milford, New Hampshire, and Nicholas Weldon of Brimfield, Massachusetts. His beloved rescued dog, Snowie will also miss him dearly. His family affectionately called him “Bob from Brimfield” and he is now at peace. Bob's family would like to thank all of the Doctors and medical teams from Mass General Hospital, Brimfield Family Health Center, Encompass Rehabilitation, Encompass Home Health and Action Ambulance and so many more for their dedication and support through these last months. You eased not only Bob’s care but supported his loved ones greatly. On Friday, October 9th at 11:00 a.m., please gather at the First Congregational Church of Brimfield to celebrate Bob's life. Feel free to bring a chair if you wish, as the service will be held outdoors. You may also join virtually by clicking bit.ly/RHannaMemorial at the time of the service. Friends are also welcome to say a final farewell by lining Main Street and the common, as Bob is brought for his final ride from the church past the Brimfield Fire Department, to his place of rest at Brimfield Cemetery around 11:45 a.m. on Friday. Please remain socially distant with masks and the family thanks you for your understanding at this time with the current COVID regulations and in keeping everyone safe.
