Thomas F. Smith, born on October 6, 1939 , passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy marked by devotion to family and a lifetime of cherished memories.

Born in Palmer to the late Donald Smith and Claudia (Fortier) Smith, he was raised in the town before residing in Hampden and then Monson since 2008. Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his two brothers George and Donald and his spouse, Carol (Alderman) Smith.

He is survived by his children: Tom Smith (Sharon) and Timothy Smith (Jayne), Tammy Smith (Sean) who carry forward his legacy with pride; and his stepchildren, Sue Pevey (Ken), Lynn Minney (Michael), and Brian Kirk (Kelly), who brought additional joy, laughter, and companionship into his world. Thomas’s family circle further also includes his sister, Claudia Robichard, and for the past 9 years, Tom was blessed with his significant other, Beverlie Macaulay.

Working hard through the years, Tom worked as a mechanic for Springfield Steel Erectors. In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and taking his mobile home to races along with time outdoors boating, fishing, camping and hunting. In his more recent years, his mornings were filled with watching birds.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 13 from 10am-11am at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home with a service to begin at 11am. Burial of Tom and Carol will follow in Old Cemetery in Hampden.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to Shriners Hospital for Children.
