William G. Smith

William G. Smith, 72, of Palmer, MA, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Baystate Medical Center. Born on March 8, 1954, at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, William spent his early years in various locations due to his father’s service in the Air Force, with a significant portion of his upbringing in Illinois.

William proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, demonstrating a commitment to his country that continued throughout his life. For over 34 years, he made Palmer his home, where he became a valued member of the community and attended the Faith Baptist Church.

Professionally, William was a talented manager and salesman, where his leadership and dedication were evident. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, reading, writing, and spending time with family. His sense of humor was infectious, and was rivaled only by his knowledge of trivia. William loved animals and cherished the companionship of his beloved dogs, Duke and Riley.

William is survived by his wife, Lynda (Bedford) Smith; his three children, Adam, Cera, and Nathan; his daughter-in-law, Stephanie; and his beloved granddaughter, Isabelle, daughter of Adam and Stephanie. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Smith, and sister, Carolyn Kelly.

A chapel service with military honors will take place Wednesday, August 19 at 2pm at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA. Please meet directly at the cemetery.
