Betty Lee Edler

Betty Lee Edler passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, at the age of 90. She was born on March 25, 1936, in Oceanside, NY, to the late Reverend Christian Kirkegaard and Frederikke (Falk) Kirkegaard.

After graduating from high school, Betty furthered her education at the Katharine Gibbs School of Business. She went on to work for many years as an administrative assistant at Baystate Environmental Consultants before retiring.

Betty shared 61 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Edward W. Edler Jr., who predeceased her. Together, they enjoyed traveling and making lasting memories. Betty especially cherished camping trips with her family and the time spent together creating traditions and enjoying one another's company.

A talented and creative woman, Betty was an accomplished cook and enjoyed beading and knitting. She was also very musically inclined. She played both piano and guitar, loved to sing, and was blessed with a beautiful voice. She was a member of the Loomis Chorus, where she was able to share her love of music with others. Betty also had a generous heart and was an American Field Service (AFS) host mother, welcoming Australian student, Stuart Williams into her home and family.

She leaves behind her son, Christian Edler and his wife, Shelley, of Chicopee, MA; her daughter, Karen Haines and her husband, Christopher, of Barrington, NH; and her beloved grandchildren, Kathryn Edler, Matteson Haines, and Sydney Haines.

A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Holyoke, with a service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
