David James Seiffert
Apr 30, 1942 — Aug 13, 2026
David James Seiffert Sr., 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community leader, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at his home with the love of his family surrounding him. Born on April 30, 1942, in Springfield, MA, he was the son of Herman H. and Eleanor (Hoessler) Seiffert. David moved to Granby at the age of 8, where he planted deep roots and became a pillar of the community.
David dedicated his life to public service as the Fire Chief of Granby, serving from 1976 to 1998. He was the first full-time chief in Granby, leaving a lasting impact on the town's safety and emergency response systems. In recognition of his long-standing commitment, he received a certificate as one of the top 100 longest-serving EMTs in the state of Massachusetts.
Outside of his professional life, David's heart was devoted to his family and his farm. Married to the love of his life, Karen (Wilson) Seiffert, for 65 wonderful years, their relationship was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised a family that included their children: Alyson Reed, who passed in 2024, David Jr. and his wife Carolynne, Frederic and his wife Lucinda, and their foster son Hai Cheng and his wife Lorraine. David was a proud grandfather to Stephen, Kara, Brianna, Andrea, Zacharria, Bruce, Amara, and Delaney. David was also survived by his sister, Fern Cushing and predeceased by his brother, Paul.
David's life was a tapestry of community involvement and personal passions. He was a gentle man who found joy in working the land, particularly with his llamas, dairy goats, pigs, and chickens. He took pride in haying the farm and embracing the simple pleasures of rural life. His dedication to youth was evident through his role as a Cub Scout leader and his honorary status as a Girl Scout, due to the countless hours he spent supporting the organization.
A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be held on August 26 at 10 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Granby followed by a reception at the Parish House. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to either the church or the Granby Fire Fighters Association, in honor of David's legacy of service and commitment to his community.
