James J. Elefterakis

SOUTH HADLEY – James Elefterakis, 91, passed away on August 26th after a brief illness. Jim was born in Westfield and was the son of John and Fotoula (Seonis) Elefterakis. Jim is predeceased by his brother, Peter Elefterakis and nephew Michael Butler. He grew up in Westfield, attending local schools including Westfield High.

After serving in the Army, Jim spent his career in the food industry, starting at his father’s restaurant, the Coffee Den in Westfield. He had a long career as a Friendly Ice Cream Manager that spanned 30 years. After Friendly’s he continued his restaurant expertise at the Foster House in Westfield and finally at Packard’s in Northampton.

Jim spent his golden years at his beloved antique shop, Yesterday’s in South Deerfield. He was an enthusiastic antique collector, so it was not surprising he decided to open his own shop. He loved chatting with his customers from all over and Yesterday’s became a place to stop in and browse.

Jim not only worked in the food industry but also had a love for a good meal. Whether it was Mykonos for Greek food, Amedeos for pizza, or sharing a meal at his daughter’s house, he never lost his passion for food. Lastly, he could never drive by a soft serve ice cream place without stopping for a cone.

Jim leaves his devoted wife of 30 years, Lee Ann Foucher of South Hadley, and his children; Karen Elefterakis and husband John Tesny of West Springfield, Kim Elefterakis of Easthampton and Amy Salvucci and husband Craig of Merrimack, NH and two grandchildren; Nicholas and Danielle Salvucci. He leaves his sister, Maria Butler of Russell, nephews David and Christopher Butler, niece Anne Elefterakis and stepson Kevin and wife Teri Pietruskiewicz.

Jim will be greatly missed by his wife and daughters. Burial will be at the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at the convenience of the family.
