Joan Casavant

South Hadley- Joan Casavant (nee Laporte), 93, passed away May 31, 2026. She was born in South Hadley where she continued to reside throughout her life. Devoted to her faith, she was a longtime communicant of St. Theresa's Parish. Joan was a dedicated homemaker whose life was marked by generosity, compassion, and unwavering faith. She gave selflessly of her time through extensive volunteer work with Holyoke Hospital, Kate’s Kitchen, and St. Theresa’s Parish, touching countless lives in her community. She also shared a lasting bond with her beloved dachshund, Star.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, George Laporte and Claire (LaBonte) Rygs; her loving husband, Rene Casavant; her son, James (Jim) Casavant and sisters, Carol Skrok, Doris Laporte and Sandra Laporte. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Casavant of Ludlow, MA, her son, Russell Casavant and his children, Helen, Julie and Ronnie, all of whom reside in Apex, NC ; siblings, Ronald Laporte, of FL, Richard Laporte and Shirley Rudnick, both of CT and George Laporte of FL.; as well a cousin, many nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held on tuesday, June 9, 2026 from 9:30-11:30 AM at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 PM at St. Theresa's Parish in South Hadley. Burial will immediately follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory can be made to Dakin Humane Society by visiting www.dakinhumane.org.
