Lois J. Carr

June 5, 1936 — May 20, 2026

Lois J. Carr, born on June 5, 1936, in Holyoke, MA, peacefully passed away on May 20, 2026. Raised in South Hadley, she and her husband raised their children in Granby. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Granby, where her faith and dedication were a source of strength and inspiration to those around her.

Lois’s life was marked by her devotion to family, joy in hosting gatherings, a passion for creating warm, memorable moments at family parties, unique birthday cakes and weekend drives with her husband, E. Wilson Carr. Lois could always be depended on for her chicken soup and chili at the church events and exercises classes back in the day. Beach vacations in New Jersey and on Cape Cod were also treasured times. Her cat, Tiger, was a constant and cherished companion, a small but significant presence in her daily life.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, William Perkins Strong and Pinella W. (Merriman), and was the youngest and last surviving of her siblings. She is survived by her devoted husband, E. Wilson Carr; her daughter Sandra and her husband Dean Lamontagne of Belchertown; her son Preston of South Hadley; and her two grandchildren, Maxwell and Marc Lamontagne, who brought her immense pride and happiness.

A visitation in Lois’s honor will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Beers & Story Funeral Home in South Hadley, Massachusetts, located at 646 Newton Street. This will be followed by a funeral service starting at 10:00 am in the funeral home and burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
