Springfield — Michael R. Belanger, 60, passed away on August 3, 2026. Born in Holyoke on February 9, 1966, Michael grew up in Ludlow and attended Ludlow High School.
Michael will be dearly missed by his father Richard Belanger and mother Ruth Belanger-Sassi and her husband, Gino; his daughters, Stephanie Soffen and Emily Rose Moriarty; his step-siblings, Kathi, David, Steven, and Jeff; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Michael was a hardworking man who spent much of his life working in roofing, landscaping, and sheet metal. He was skilled with his hands and took pride in the work he did throughout the years.
Michael had a love for water skiing. He grew up on the water and was an exceptionally talented skier. He spent many memorable years as a member of the Pioneer Valley Water Ski Club, creating memories that stayed with him throughout his life.
Above all, Michael loved his family. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Stephanie and Emily, whom he loved deeply and was incredibly proud of. Michael was sensitive, caring, and had a big heart, especially when it came to those he loved.
Family meant a great deal to Michael. After the loss of his brother and sister, he remained close to his parents and was a source of strength and support. The bond he shared with his family and the love he had for them will always be remembered.
Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Belanger; his sister, Cynthia Belanger; his stepbrother, Greg Converse; his stepmother, June Belanger; and his best friend of more than 40 years, Gabe.
Michael will be remembered for his love of family, his caring heart, his strength, and the many memories he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Burial will take place at St. Michael Cemetery on August 17,2026 at 11am. Family and friends are welcome to attend and join us as we lay Michael to rest. There will be no calling hours or Celebration of Life.
