Paul Anthony "Butchie" Cataldo
Nov 29, 1943 — Sep 27, 2026
Paul Anthony “Butchie” Cataldo, 82, passed away in the early morning hours of September 27, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas.
Paul was born on November 29, 1943, and grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he attended Technical High School. He spent most of his adult life in South Hadley, Massachusetts, which he called home for many years.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, which he joined in 1964, and later served in the Army Reserve.
Paul spent much of his career in the grocery industry, including many years with A&P Super Foodmarts, where he served as a Senior Category Manager. He later combined his love of cigars with entrepreneurship as the owner and operator of Cataldo’s Fine Cigars in Granby, Massachusetts.
Freemasonry was an important part of Paul’s life. A 32nd-degree Mason and Past Master of Mount Holyoke Lodge in South Hadley, Paul was deeply involved in the organization’s charitable work and went on to serve as District Deputy Grand Master of the 27th Masonic District in Massachusetts.
Paul enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing golf, and joking with people and making them laugh. He especially enjoyed trips to Florida and the friendships and good times he shared throughout his life.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Cataldo; his parents, Paul and Isabel; and his sister, Sandra. He is survived by his daughter, Lenore Cataldo of San Antonio, Texas, and her family; and his son, Dustin Cataldo of Bozeman, Montana, and his family.
In his final years, Paul was lovingly cared for by his daughter, Lenore, and his grandson, Ryan, in San Antonio.
Paul will be remembered for his sense of humor, the friendships he treasured, and the many good times he shared with those around him.
Paul’s family saw firsthand the devastating toll of Parkinson’s disease. In his memory, the family encourages support for Parkinson’s research and the search for a cure.
A memorial service celebrating Paul’s life will be held in Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home at a later date. Burial will be private.
