Cruz Jimenez Perez, born on September 14, 1954, in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, in Watsonville, California. His journey through life was marked by dedication, warmth, and a deep love for family and community.
Cruz’s early years in Mexico found him immersed in the art of baking as a “tahonero,” a baker of artisan breads, where his hands crafted nourishing food with care and skill. Upon moving to Hollywood, California, he continued nurturing others as a cook, eventually dedicating his last working days to serving the city of Los Angeles as a city worker. His career reflected a commitment to hard work and a humble devotion to providing for those around him.
Beyond his professional life, Cruz was a man of vibrant passions and generous spirit. For over three decades, he played baseball in adult leagues, his love for the sport intertwining with his role as a coach, guiding and inspiring others in the game he cherished. His enthusiasm extended to weekly wrestling events and a heartfelt allegiance to Major League Baseball’s Dodgers, revealing a joyful camaraderie with fellow fans. Cruz’s curiosity and joy connected him to the imaginative worlds of Star Wars and the hands-on challenge of fixing cars, hobbies that mirrored his attentive and meticulous nature.
Those who knew Cruz remember him foremost as a caring and loving person. His welcoming heart embraced all who came into his life, family, and friends alike. This deep kindness was the foundation of the relationships he treasured the most.
Cruz is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Blanca Lidia Perez; his daughters, Maria Lidia Perez-Tolbert and Esmeralda Perez; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Their lives, richly entwined with his love, carry forward his legacy of compassion and strength.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Luciano Perez (December 2014), Angel Perez (December 2025), Camilo Perez (May 2023), Jesus Perez (June 2012), and his sister Martina Perez (2012).
A Mass to honor Cruz’s life will be held at St Columbkille Catholic Church, located at 6315 Main St, Los Angeles, CA 90003, on June 27, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
