Larry Lee Robbins

LARRY LEE ROBBINS, 87, formerly of Felton, CA and Tambor, Costa Rica passed away on July 13, 2026 at the Palo Alto VA Hospital in the Hospice Unit after a long illness.

Larry was born on August 19, 1938 in Oakland, CA to Margarite and Ransome Robbins. He grew up in Oakland and graduated from Fremont High School in 1956. During his high school years he earned his Ace Eagle Scout Medal in the Air Explorer Division. After high school he attended San Francisco State University where he majored in physics and joined the ROTC.

In the early years after college he married Margaret Doyle and they had two sons Scott and Todd.

Right out of college he entered the USAF and embarked on his dream career since the age of 15 – flying. His 9 years in the Air Force took him to Moore AB-TX, Williams AFB-AZ, Stead AFB-NV, McChord AFB-WA, Tinker AFB-OK, Tachikawa AB-Japan, and Hill AFB-UT. His assignments took him to a range of places from Alaska to Guam to the Philippines and many more locations worldwide.

As Air Force Captain he flew C-124 missions in and out of Vietnam during the war.

After his Air Force career Larry hired on with Trans World Airlines (TWA) flying the B-747, L-1011, B-707, and B-727 flying to both domestic and international locations.

It was at TWA/SFO in 1976 where he met Ginny Ott who also worked for TWA. They married in 1982.

As a sideline, while working for TWA, Larry developed land in Felton, CA where he designed and supervised the building of his home and three other houses.

In 1998 after 30 years with TWA he retired but there was no keeping him out of the skies. He bought a Great Lakes open cockpit bi-plane and started a business out of the Watsonville Airport giving flights up and down the coast from Monterey to Half Moon Bay doing loops and rolls if his passenger wanted some excitement.

In 2004 Larry and Ginny found a diamond-in-the-rough property high in the mountain overlooking the Bay of Tambor in Costa Rica. Larry supervised the building of the home they would live in for 10 years enjoying a tropical lifestyle. In 2014 Larry had a stroke and they moved back to California permanently.

Larry is lovingly survived by his wife of 44 years, Virginia (Ginny); son Scott and wife Diane and granddaughter Kelly and husband Dave Paquette and great grandson Rivers and granddaughter Brooke; Son Todd and wife Danielle; daughter Sierra and husband Scott Evans and granddaughters Soleil and Skylar.

He is preceded in death by his sister Roxanne.

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to any of Larry’s favorite charities: Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnel to Towers, or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
