Sal Ramirez
March 8, 1934 — March 28, 2026
Sal Ramirez, age 92, entered into eternal rest on March 28, 2026, in Santa Cruz, California. He was born on March 8, 1934, in Michoacán, Mexico to Salvador and Margarita Franco Ramirez.
Sal lived a long and meaningful life, always guided by faith, family, and hard work. He found joy in gardening, exercising, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
On May 24, 1963, he married the love of his life, Imelda Escobar. Together they built a strong and loving family. They raised their two sons, Martin and Eddie, in the Bay Area and in Mexico before eventually settling in Santa Cruz, California. Imelda supported her husband until the end of his days, helping to build a loving tradition that will be carried on for generations.
Sal was preceded in death by his beloved son, Martin “Chippo” Ramirez.
Left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Vanessa, Nico, and Viviana Ramirez, and his daughter-in-law, Valerie La France. Sal was blessed to watch them grow and to be part of their lives, proudly embracing the role of grandfather with love, guidance, and pride.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all family and friends who shared their love and support throughout Sal’s lifetime. Muchas gracias por su dedicación y cariño.
The Ramirez family will receive family and friends for a mass of Catholic burial on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 11:00am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, California. Following the Mass, Sal will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery at 1pm. The Ramirez family will gather privately afterward to reflect on his life as no other events are planned for Sal.
Pallbearers will be Javier Escobar, Luis Escobar, Jesus Escobar, Daniel “Junior” Garcia, Nico Ramirez and Eddie Ramirez.
Sal will be deeply missed, but his love, strength, spirit, and unique gift for storytelling will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
