Carol G. Gizara

Carol Conrad Gizara, age 97, passed away September 27, 2026. She was born September 12, 1929, daughter of William L. and Nellie Gedraitis Contrad.

She was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, class of 1947.

She married Chester J. Gizara on July 26, 1947 and they were married for 63 years until his passing. Mrs. Gizara, together with her husband, owned and operated the Mohawk Valley Democrat weekly newspaper in Fonda, NY for 33 years, from 1955 until 1988. She also served as an election inspector for over 50 years.

Carol was an avid bowler for over 50 years in the St. Stanislaus and City Leagues and later the Senior Social League. She enjoyed being a homemaker, gardening, crafts and travel.

She is survived by her grandchildren Nancy Cole and Gary Danise, Jr.; great grandchildren Michael Cole and Garrett Cole, Gary Danise, Jr. and Giovanni Danise; great great grandchildren Sophia McConville, Kason Cole and Everliegh Cole; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by her loving husband Chet Gizara; son David Gizara and daughter Karen Danise. Also, her daughter-in-law Mary Rose Gizara, grandson Christopher Gizara, and brothers Art Conrad and William Conrad.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, October 5, 2026 from 9 AM to 11 AM at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam NY. A service will take place at the funeral home at 11 AM. Carol will be laid to rest in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam.
