Earl Charles King
Nov 12, 1930 — Oct 3, 2026
Earl "Buster" Charles King, Army Korean War Veteran, of Northville, NY passed away with beloved family at his side on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at home. He was 95 years old.
Earl was raised in Amsterdam, NY, born November 12, 1930 to Augustus Earl and Anna Bloomquist King, and grew up with his sister Dolores "Tinker" King Aldi.
Earl joined the Army and "got blown on his ass" and still had shrapnel in his head, as he put it. He fell in love in Philadelphia and married Kathleen Mary McGlynn King, who predeceased him in 1987. He was predeceased by his first born daughter Karen M. King (1953-2023) and his only son, Gary C. King (1955-2001).
Earl was a risk taker who moved his family to Montgomery County. He took $300 and turned it into half a million dollars by starting a very successful machine shop, King Guthrie, creating parts for the military and more.
Earl was a gadget guy who liked fixing things, driving his tractor, flying his friends' plane "back in the day" and he could do the waltz on roller skates!
He liked horses, sharks, cool cars, Cadillacs, and motorcycles. He had a way with the ladies, and was known to be a big tipper. He was friendly with everyone, funny with his quick wit and he always had a sparkle in his eyes when he smiled.
Earl retired in Northville, NY in the Adirondacks and would spend his time smoking his pipe with cherry tobacco, watching horror movies and old Westerns as well as Youtube. He would sunbathe in the nude, enjoyed playing poker, listening to old country music, and loved his Jim Nabors albums. One of his favorite things was dessert, and he loved sharing treats with his dog Tinker, his cat Jack, and his granddog Yogi Bear.
My Pop would best be described as a handsome, dapper, debonair, smart, successful, inventive, admirable, stubborn and strong willed, respectable, amazing, caring, thoughtful, generous, artistically gifted; a genuine human being and he was truly one of a kind. He was one of the good guys. To us, he was the most loved Pop in the world. He'll be missed forever, but never forgotten.
Earl died peacefully at home in the Adirondacks, surrounded by his biggest fans: his only granddaughter Colleen Aurelia, her husband Brian Pinch and their son Brian McGuigan.
Earl will be laid to rest with the love of his life, Kathleen, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania.
POP
A man of strength - A man of honor
You stepped in to become my "father"
You took over when no one else could
Giving me a home when no one else would
You worked hard and you worked long
People blamed you for things gone wrong
But, I think what you did was right
A roof over our heads, food on the table at night...
Because of your ways you are misunderstood
But, anyone who knows you - knows you are good
You may makes jokes and call people names
I know that it is all a part of your game
I think you're a smart, kind hearted man
You are part of who I am
And, I know in your eyes, I am just a kid
But, I appreciate everything you did!
Thank you!!
