Edward Mendez

Edward “Sou” Mendez, 58, of Amsterdam, passed away September 28, 2026 at his home. He was born June 4, 1968 in Brooklyn, the son of Sixto and Luisa Mendez.

Edward enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, watching kung fu movies, playing his Casio keyboard, and retro arcade games. He also loved sports, being an avid fan of the New York Giants and New York Yankees. His greatest pleasure was his family, and he treasured every moment spent with his children and grandchildren, to which he was affectionately known as “Papa Sou”.

Edward will be greatly missed and forever live in our hearts.

Edward is survived by his mother, Luisa Mendez; his children, Sean (Nicole) Mendez and Gabriel Mendez; his siblings, Sixto Mendez Jr., Adolfo Mendez, Evelyn Gonzalez, Yvette Cooper, Daisy Mendez, Rebecca Mendez, and Jeanette Mendez; and his beloved grandchildren, Nelson Mendez Jr., King Malakai Frost, Irick Carter Jr., Jaazaniyah Franklin-Mendez, Jayah Franklin-Mendez, Quentin Mendez, and Ezraya Mendez.

Edward was predeceased by his father, Sixto Mendez Sr.; his son, Nelson Mendez Sr.; and his brother, Roberto Cruz Jr.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00PM to 3:30PM, October 8, 2026 at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. A service will take place at 3:30 PM
