Gordon H. Lansing
March 4, 1930 — May 28, 2026
Gordon H. Lansing, 96, of Amsterdam, passed away May 28, 2026. He was born March 4, 1930 in Amsterdam, the son of Charles and Florence Lansing.
Gordon was a man who found great joy in the everyday routines of life. An avid fan of police and crime dramas, he could often be found caught up in his favorite TV shows, with Chicago Fire being one of his favorites. His love for life’s simple comforts extended to his favorite meals; nothing beat a good cheeseburger, a side of mashed potatoes, and a perfectly brewed, hot cup of coffee. A proud veteran of retail therapy, Gordon loved going shopping, with trips to Target being a particular highlight. He also possessed a creative side, spending many peaceful hours working on various crafts.
He was immensely proud of his Native American heritage, carrying that history with honor. His devotion to family didn't end with time; he spent many meaningful hours visiting his parents’ graves, a testament to his enduring love and respect for them. Gordon loved spending Christmas Eve with his family, something he looked forward to every year. His faith was also an important cornerstone of his life, finding community and peace at the Amsterdam Methodist Church.
Animals held a very special place in Gordon's heart. He was a true animal lover through and through, but no creature was more cherished than his beloved cat, Bobbie Jo, who brought him endless companionship and joy.
To know Gordon was to know exactly where you stood with him—he loved his "Liberty family," and if he liked you, you absolutely knew it.
Gordon is survived by his nieces and nephews Dyhan (Lansing) Posluszny, Donna (Raco) Lansing, Robert Lansing, Jr. and Sandy, Karen (Lansing) Rogers, John Lansing and Laurie, Patricia (Lansing) Edwards, Barbara (Lansing) West, Robert Wells and Debbie, and Edward Wells. He also leaves behind many Liberty family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Charles Relyea Lansing and Florence May (Earls) Lansing, his brothers and sisters Conswalla Lansing, Herbert Lansing, Leo Lansing, Adolph Lansing, Robert Lansing, Sr., Everett Lansing, Eliza (Lansing) Wells, Dorothy (Lansing) Brown Green, Florence Lansing, and Harold Lansing. He was also predeceased by a nephew, David Brown.
