Jack T. DeWeese

Jack T. DeWeese, 86, passed away on August 31, 2026, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

Born in Schenectady, New York, on October 6, 1939, he was the son of the late Maude and Thomas DeWeese. Jack earned his undergraduate degree in Education from Wagner College and went on to complete Master’s degrees in both Guidance and Administration from SUNY Oneonta.

He began his career in education in 1961 as a music teacher at Fort Plain High School. He later transitioned into guidance, working as a counselor at Columbia High School in East Greenbush. In 1975, he joined Gloversville High School as the Vice Principal and Head of Guidance, later serving as the school's Principal until 1987. He concluded his career in school administration as the Principal of Moriah Central School District, retiring in 1996.

Jack was active in local organizations and community management. He served as the President of the Fulton County YMCA Board, Treasurer of the Eastern Zone Retired Teachers Association, and President of the Caroga Lake Chapel Board, where he also directed the music program. Additionally, he managed the Eurasian Milfoil eradication program at Caroga Lake.

A vocalist and musician, Jack sang for many years with the Mohawk Valley Chorus, traveling internationally to sing and sightsee with his wife. He played the bass fiddle, performing with the Schenectady and Albany Symphonies during his high school years, and later played folk music in church settings. He and his family spent extensive time at their home on Caroga Lake.

Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia DeWeese; his two sons, Scott DeWeese and Jeff (Jennifer) DeWeese; and his six grandchildren: Lucas, Brett, Kara, Jack, Sydney, and Brooke. He also leaves behind his dog, Dewey, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald (Sue Ellen) DeWeese, and his sister, Susanne Booth.

A service of remembrance and celebration of life will take place at the Caroga Lake Chapel, 106 Chapel Road, Caroga Lake, NY, on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow immediately, with details to be shared at the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Caroga Lake Chapel.
