Kenneth W. Minch, Jr.
Jul 23, 1949 — Sep 19, 2026
Kenneth W. Minch, Jr., 77, of Tribes Hill, NY, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, in St. Johnsville, NY, surrounded by those who loved him.
Ken was born on July 23, 1949, in Fort Hunter, NY. He was a man who valued friendship, hard work, and the simple pleasures of life. After graduating in 1967 from Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School in Amsterdam, he began working at the General Electric Company. Shortly after, Ken enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country in Vietnam and later Germany. Upon returning home, he resumed his nearly 40-year career at GE in Schenectady, eventually becoming a highly skilled inspector of large turbine and generator components.
Ken loved being outdoors. Fishing, hunting, and camping were among his favorite pastimes, and some of his best memories were made with friends around a campfire at Sacandaga Lake. An avid sports fan, he grew up playing baseball and, as an adult, softball. One of his proudest accomplishments was winning a championship on a team that included all five Minch brothers—a special milestone that reflected both their close bond and competitive spirit.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Carol A. McDermott, whose passing left a profound loss. He was also predeceased by their beloved son, Ryan T. Minch, as well as his parents, Kenneth W. Minch Sr. and Lorraine L. O'Donnell, and his brother, Timothy B. Minch.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Minch of Amsterdam, NY; his brothers, Philip B. Minch (Suezette) of Vero Beach, FL, Ted W. Minch (Judy) of Auriesville, NY, and Bryan J. Minch (Sherri) of Spring, TX; his sisters, Cynthia L. Close (Ben) of Northville, NY, Patricia L. Prime (Wade) of Pensacola, FL, and Mimi Kosinski (and fiancé Rick Insogna) of Tribes Hill, NY; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Minch of Caroga Lake, NY. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry fond memories of him.
Later in life, Ken found a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ, accepting Him as his Lord and Savior. His family takes great comfort in knowing his faith brought him peace, and that he was wrapped in love and care during his final days.
Ken will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his friendships, his competitive nature, and the many good times shared over the years. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Private services will be held for family and close friends. His brother-in-law, Pastor Wade Prime, will preside.
