Anthony "Duke" Caruso, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, with his loving family by his side. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and community.
Anthony was born February 1, 1937, in Gloversville, NY, son of the late Mary and Louis Caruso. He was the beloved husband of his late wife, Edna Cannizzo Caruso, whom he married on August 17, 1959. They shared many beautiful years together.
Anthony was a graduate and Class President of the Gloversville High School Class of 1955. He went on to attend SUNY Cobleskill and later earned a degree in Sociology through the University Without Walls program. He dedicated more than 30 years of service to Tryon School.
Anthony devoted much of his life to serving others. He was active in Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Gloversville/Johnstown Water Board, the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Gloversville High School Football Booster Club, and served as President of Gloversville Little League Baseball. He also proudly served as Deputy Mayor of Gloversville. A devout Catholic, he was a proud member of Sacred Heart Church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and St. Mary's Church in Ballston Spa.
Anthony was an avid golfer, sports enthusiast, and lifelong Red Sox fan.
Most of all, Anthony will be remembered as a dedicated father, grandfather "Pops," and friend who devoted his life to helping those around him.
Anthony is survived by his children, Jeannine (David) Toney of Ballston Spa, NY, and Stephen (Patricia) Caruso of Uxbridge, MA; his grandchildren, Ryan Caruso, Nicholas Toney (April Reynolds), and Anthony Caruso (Julia); his great-grandson, Anthony "A.J." Caruso; his siblings, William (Kim) Aperance and Rick (Cindi) Renschler; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Anthony was predeceased by his siblings, Thomas (Pat) Caruso, Nancy (Alvin) Busch, and Joseph (Sue) Caruso.
A public visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at St. Mary's Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa, New York 12020, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with a Funeral Mass to begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 76 South Kingsboro Ave., Gloversville, New York 12078.
His kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to others will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
