David L. Van Avery

David L. Van Avery, 81, of Johnstown, passed away September 1, 2026. He was born November 12, 1944 in Fultonville, the son of Nelson and Anniera Van Avery.

An avid outdoorsman, David was most at home in nature. Whether he was tracking game in the woods or spending a quiet morning on the water with a fishing rod in hand, he found true peace and contentment in the outdoors. He also cherished the fellowship of his community, with the Moose Club in Canajoharie serving as his favorite gathering place to share stories, laughs, and good times with old friends.

David is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Robert) Flores; six grandchildren Gary Cionek, Bryan LaPorte, Justice LaPorte, Clayton LaPorte, Emma Flores and Gracie Flores; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, his long time companion, Susie; and all his siblings - Nelson, Noreen, Paula and Kathy.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 PM on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at the Moose Club in Canajoharie - 205 Erie Blvd, Canajoharie, NY 13317.

Memorial contributions in David's name may be made in lieu of flowers to the Montgomery County SPCA or to an SPCA of your choice.
