Grace K. Clute, age 92, of Gloversville passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Grace was born in Johnstown on July 25, 1934, the daughter of the late Eugene "Mike" and Grace (Young) Ward.
Grace was a graduate of Mayfield High School Class of 1951. She was employed at various glove companies in Gloversville and Johnstown. Over the years, she also worked at Allegro Shoe and Johnstown Knitting Mill. Her last employment, at age 86, was at Mendetta's Mini Mart retiring in 2020. Grace worked with her sister, Audrey Mendetta, helping with the deli and catering. Grace's specialty was the very popular chocolate jumble cookies sold at the store. She enjoyed baking many varieties of cookies at Christmas and sharing them with family and friends. Several of her hobbies included crocheting and reading.
On March 10, 1956, Grace married Clarence E. Clute Jr. They celebrated 40 years of marriage.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Wendy Zimmerman; her son, John C. (Rose) Clute; grandchildren, Matthew (Marisa) Zimmerman, Renee (Anthony) Brockhum, Jared Zimmerman, Kasey (Michael) LaFountain, and Charles DeVoe III; great grandchilden, Marc and Rocco Zimmerman; sister, Audrey Mendetta; sister-in-laws, Josephine and Lois Ward.
Grace was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; daughter, Gail Clute; great grandson, Nicholas Zimmerman; son-in-law, Mark Zimmerman; brothers, George (Ascita), Harold and Fred Ward.
Family and friends are invited to attend a public visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville on Friday, August 14, 2026 with a service to begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, New York.
Grace's family would like to thank the staff at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing for all the care Grace received these past two years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
