September 10, 1937 — March 29, 2026

Margaret Leane Bonfey was born on September 10, 1937 to A. Wendell and Margaret Lippert Hollenbeck. Most people knew her as Leane.

She married her late husband Donald Wells Bonfey on October 3, 1969. They had a combined family of 7 children. Three children from Margaret: Steve Bonfey, William Bonfey ,and Joanne Kadle (Mark) and four children from Donald that she adopted: Kim Lowenthal (James), Bambi Bonfey, Kevin Bonfey (Roylene), Greg Bonfey (Rhonda) . They shared 53+ wonderful years together.

She is survived by her 7 children, 7 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by one brother, A. Marwen Hollenbeck (Sandy).

Leane lived most of her life in Mayfield NY, graduating from Mayfield Central School in 1955

She was a member of the North Main Street Methodist church. After high school she worked at the phone company and later on at Robinson & Smith & Company as a seamstress before becoming a fulltime house wife and mom.

In her younger years she was a 4-H member for 10 years. Later in life she was a 20 year member of TOPS Club of America and a member of the Molly Brant Quilters. Leane loved her sewing and quilting and she excelled at both. She also like to tend to her flower gardens in the summer months.

Leane enjoyed boating, camping and traveling with her husband Don.

Since January 2022 she had been living at St. Johnsville Rehab and Nursing Center. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the love and care that the staff provided for our mom and for my dad while he was there.

A grave side service will be held at the Mayfield Union Rural Cemetery in the spring when conditions are right. Relatives and her friends will be notified.
