Mary E. Ellis

Aug 26, 1934 — Jun 23, 2026

Mary (Pullman) Ellis, born on August 26, 1934, in Utica, New York, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026 wrapped in the love and gratitude of her family. The daughter of the late James and Anna Pullman, Mary lived her life with a grace that left a quiet but unmistakable mark on everyone who knew her. Her days were shaped by devotion, resilience, and affection for her family.

Mary was reunited in eternal rest with her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Leon “Stan” Ellis, with whom she shared a lifetime of laughter, partnership, and support while residing in Gloversville, New York. She was also predeceased by her siblings—Myles, Hugh, Ambrose, James, Anna Carol, and Gladdeus—along with her son, Lawrence Cook; her daughter, Lynn Nickle; and her son-in-law, Paul Nickle. Though she endured profound loss across her lifetime, Mary faced each hardship with courage, faith, and an enduring kindness that inspired all who walked beside her.

A woman of soft strength and quiet wisdom, in her later years, as she navigated the challenges of dementia, she continued to embody grace. Even when memories flickered, her spirit did not. Her warmth, her humor, and her unmistakable spark continued to shine, offering glimpses of the woman her family knew so well and loved so deeply. Her remaining years were spent under the dutiful care of the staff at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, NY.

She leaves behind her sister, Nanette Connors, and her daughters Lisette (Steven) Shultis, Leslie (Mark) Flagler, and Laura Walker, all of whom carry forward her determination, compassion, and perseverance.

Mary’s pride extended lovingly to her grandchildren—Jessica, Beth, Marie, Casey, Matthew, Ian, Jacob, Luke, Andrew, Lauren, Leon, and Larry James—each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her great-grandchildren, too, brought her tremendous joy, their smiles and energy lighting her days and reminding her of the beauty of life’s unfolding generations.

Mary’s life was a testament to the enduring strength of family, the power of love, and the resilience of the human spirit. She will be deeply missed, yet her legacy will continue to live on in the stories, traditions, and memories lovingly held by those fortunate enough to share in her life.

May her soul rest in peace, forever surrounded by the love of her family in heaven and here on earth.

A funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 153 S Main St, Gloversville, NY 12078 on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 10:00am with burial to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
