Phyllis Mary Guiffre

On September 24th, 2026, Phyllis Mary Guiffre passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital. She was 95 years young and lived 87 of those years as a resident of Gloversville NY.

Phyllis was born on September 13, 1931, the oldest of 4 siblings, born to Ernest and Gianinna Clemente Tartaglia.

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Anthony (Sonny) Guiffre, by her brother John Tartaglia (Carol) and her sisters, Lucy DelSignore (Domanic), and Mary Ann Rourke (Frank).

She is survived by her son Thomas Guiffre (Marlene), granddaughter Katie Menz (Joey) and great grandson Sonny Menz along with many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins that she was very proud to call her family.

Phyllis graduated from Gloversville High School and worked at GE as a typist for a time before developing a career in the insurance field that culminated at Hathaway Insurance in Gloversville. There she became the Claims Supervisor for the office and developed lifelong friendships with her Hathaway family.

Phyllis was a member of the Mt. Carmel Church choir for many years, and she had a beautiful soprano voice. She played violin growing up and loved music of all genres. She enjoyed crocheting, dancing (which is how she met her husband in Caroga Lake), reading and gardening, where her green thumb was always on display in her backyard sanctuary filled with flowers.

She will be recalled by her family for documenting every gathering with pictures, baking delicious cookies, wrapping presents too beautiful to open, remembering every important date in the family, and for her generosity with her time and talents to celebrate those occasions. She was a shopper extraordinaire and her appearance was always meticulous.

She will also be remembered for her devotion to her family, as wife and caretaker, mother, nana, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Her strength, her support, her courage in the face of adversity and her fierce love will be sorely missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00 am, October 2, 2026, at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 153 S Main St. Gloversville, NY, with the Rev. Matthew Wetsel as celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 am prior to the church funeral mass. Burial will follow at the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown, NY.

Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown NY.
