  3. Ray Montano Jr., of Erie, Colorado, passed away on September 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, service, and devotion to his family and his hometown.

  4. Born on November 7, 1940, in Erie, Colorado, Ray lived in Erie for nearly his entire life, with the exception of the time he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His military service was an important part of his life, and he carried the pride and strength of a veteran throughout his years.

  5. Ray had a deep passion for the town of Erie and its history. He took great pride in learning about and preserving the stories of his community and his family. He also helped with the Coal Miners Statue in Erie, contributing to a piece of local history that meant so much to him.

  6. But above all else, Ray loved his family more than anything. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather,and his family was the greatest source of pride and joy in his life. To his daughter, Kelly, he was not only a father but her hero—a man whose strength, love, and presence shaped her life in countless ways.

  7. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Palmeria and Ray Montano, and his brother, Rufino Montano.

  8. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Montano; his grandchildren, Derrick Montano, Anthony Gutierrez, Ramon Gutierrez, and Nevaeh Montano; and his great-grandchildren, Riya Montano and Devin Montano, who will carry his memory and legacy forward.

  9. Ray Montano Jr. was a man who loved deeply, served proudly, and never forgot where he came from. He was a devoted family man, a proud Army veteran, a keeper of history, and a true son of Erie. He was my hero. A legend who left us far too soon.

  10. His love, his stories, his strength, and his memory will live on in all of us who were blessed to know him. Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our hero.
