Our beloved mother Mary Conrad McGarey passed away on March 20, 2026 surrounded by her children and into the loving arms of God. Mary or “Mur” was born on January 26, 1935 to Lt.Victor Allen Conrad, US Army, and Martha O’Leary Conrad in the Panama Canal Zone. She attended high school at Washington and Lee in Arlington, Virginia and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., having majored in mathematics. She married CPT. Richard Vincent McGarey, US Army, on September 15, 1956. Richard preceded her in death on December 31, 2021.
We will be forever grateful for the life Mur led and the enduring legacy she leaves behind as the courageous provider, gracious hostess, perfect margarita maker, classic movie fan and constant giver. We are especially grateful for her lifelong example of unconditional love.
She is survived by seven children Kate McGarey-Vasey (Tom), Mimi McGarey, Jane McGarey Robinson (Reggie Robinson, dec’d.), John McGarey, Matthew McGarey, Clare McGarey Wallace (Kevin), and Mark McGarey (Kendra). Survivors also include sixteen beloved grandchildren Meagan Vasey (Kyle Burdick), Tierney Vasey Westling (James), Joseph Vasey, Katherine Guercio, Michael Guercio (Rachael), Dominic Guercio, Clare Robinson (Jason Marshall), Paige Robinson, William Wallace (Paula), Ben Wallace (Kallie), John Wallace, Luke Wallace (Logan), Mary Wallace, Daniel McGarey, Patrick McGarey, Molly McGarey and eleven great grandchildren with more on the way. Memorial Mass to be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., with reception to follow.
