Alice Dauterman

Apr 8, 1918 — Jun 29, 2014

ALICE ALBERTA DAUTERMAN Our loving mother, tenderly known as "Gram" by those who loved her, went Home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the age of 96. Alice was born on April 8, 1918 in Los Angeles, CA to James and Myrtle Wood, and was her father's first daughter of eight children. On February 2, 1935, Alice married her husband, George Dauterman, and in 1948 they relocated to Durham, CA where they raised their four children; Douglas (Abigail), Tom (Sue), Margie (Lloyd), and Joel (Lucinda). Alice lived the rest of her life in the Chico, CA area, where she owned an ice cream parlor in Durham, and later volunteered at the Discovery Shoppe, and worked at Brusie Funeral Home in Chico. Alice lived her life as a devoted Christian and for many years taught Sunday School and sang in the choirs of her church, and in later years was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Chico. Alice loved angels, enjoyed all things lovely, and is remembered for her doting ways. She was a superb baker, was blessed with a green thumb that grew many beautiful roses and pansies, and was a fine seamstress, affectionately awarding her the title of "The Great Mendicator." She was known for her flair for life and classic style, dressing "to the Nines" for every occasion. Alice also cherished time spent with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Stephen and Jodi Dauterman; one great-grandchild, Anna Lisa Woodward; one son-in-law, Lloyd Baker; her husband, her parents, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her children; grandchildren, Laurie (D.G.) Woodward, Lisa Kirk, Eric and Aaron Baker, Jessica and Jaklin Dauterman; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Mia Kirk, Alexa and D.G. Woodward, Jackson and Ellie Baker; many nieces and nephews, and dear friends who have become like family over the years. The family extends their hearts of thanks to the staff at Wind Chime of Chico for the loving care and support they gave during the final months of Alice's life. Though she will be dearly missed, peace is found in knowing that Gram is now walking with Lord, amongst the angels, where she belongs. An intimate graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico.
