Ann E. Brusie
Oct 21, 1944 — Sep 18, 2017
Ann E. Brusie
A funeral service will be held for Ann Elizabeth Brusie, 72, of Chico, on Tuesday, September 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held the evening before from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Brusie Funeral Home.
Ann passed away at home on Monday, September 18, 2017. She was born on October 21, 1944 to Slim and Hazel Klausen in Willows. The Klausen family moved to Chico when Ann was young. She attended Amer J. Hamilton Elementary School, Parkview Elementary School, Chico Junior High and graduated from Chico High School in 1962. After high school, she graduated from Chico Beauty College and worked as a hairdresser at Gage's Beauty Salon. Ann married her high school sweetheart, Warren A. Brusie, on August 1, 1964 at the Bidwell Presbyterian Church in Chico. She was very proud of the fact that she made more money as a young hairdresser than her new husband did. Ann kept her cosmetology license current for the rest of her life.
Ann put her family above all else and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Ann was the matriarch of the family. She was tireless and never rested for more than a few minutes. She was always cleaning, organizing, coordinating or working around the house or her yard. When she was younger, she was a master at entertaining and took great pride in holding large dinner parties at her home. Manners were important to her and she taught her grandchildren manners and etiquette.
She was generous with her time in the community. Ann was a volunteer with Enloe Hospice for many years. For the last 10 years, she served hospice by cutting hair for hospice patients. She worked at the Discovery Shoppe for over 40 years and continued to work there until she became too ill to continue. Ann was a past President of Omega Nu and the Discovery Shoppe. She was also a member of or volunteered with the following organizations: PEO, Dance Club, Children's Home Society, 4H, Josephine-Chico Chapter #104 of Eastern Star, Advisory Board of Chico Assembly #204 International Order of Rainbow for Girls, and Enloe Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.
Ann enjoyed spending time gardening, caring for over 100 rose bushes in her yard, and making floral arrangements for others with her roses. She was an avid birdwatcher, making many trips to watch birds with her sister Abbie. She and Warren watched birds in all their travels. Ann enjoyed spending time at the family cabin at Lake Almanor. When her kids were young, she would stay at Lake Almanor all summer, even buying their new school clothes at Ayoob's Department Store in Chester. Ann and Warren and their children were avid snow skiers while the children were young. They had many memorable snow skiing trips as a family and went on annual snow skiing trips with friends. They enjoyed taking their trailer on many trips across the United States, Canada, and Alaska. She especially enjoyed their trailer trips to Mexico with her sister Jane and her family. Ann was known to send cards out almost every day for someone's birthday or other special occasion. For many years, she made all of her own cards using her own photography.
Her survivors include her husband of 53 years, Warren A. Brusie; son, Marc (Janice) Brusie; daughter, Amy (Paul) Connors; three grandchildren, Lauren and Chet Brusie and Paige Connors; two sisters, Abbie (Doug) Dauterman and Jane (John) McCowan; two nephews, Kevin (Alicia) Ahlswede, Craig (Randall Rineheart) Ahlswede; six nieces, Laurie (DG) Woodward, Lisa (Nate Howard) Kirk, Karin (Steve) Doe, Abbie (Jay) Angsman, Lottie (J.J.) Lerche and Jane Ann (Nick) Perez; and two cousins, Mary (Dennis) Lee and Suzan (Win) Wolcott.
Parking at Trinity Methodist is very limited so please plan on walking some distance. Donations may be made in Ann's memory to the Discovery Shoppe, Enloe Hospice, North Valley Health Education Foundation or the Chris Dudley Foundation to support its basketball camp for children with juvenile diabetes, in care of Brusie Funeral Home 626 Broadway Chico, CA 95928.
