Anton "Tony" Laginja peacefully passed away with his family at his side on May 18, 2016 at the age of 85 while at his home in Paradise, CA. A deeply religious man, he has now gone home to his savior and lord. He was born on January 13, 1931 in the town of Klana, Yugoslavia (Croatia). As a young man he survived war torn Yugoslavia during World War II. Those that knew him know well that the hardships he endured left a lasting impression upon him throughout his life. In 1959, seeking a better life, he immigrated to the United States of America settling in Cleveland, Ohio where he met his future wife Danica Siraj, also an immigrant from Yugoslavia (Slovenia). Tony and Danica were married on February 4, 1961 and shortly thereafter moved to Yucaipa, CA where Tony started a business as a Volkswagen mechanic. Tony was an excellent VW mechanic as he was professionally trained while in Europe. Tony and Danica had two children, daughter Cindy born in 1966 and son Brian born in 1970. In 1979 Tony and his family moved to Paradise, CA where he opened up his business "Tony's Volkswagen Repair" located at the corner of Pentz and Wagstaff Roads. Tony was well known for his quality work and honesty in dealing with customers. Tony was preceded in death by his wife Danica. Tony is survived by his daughter Cindy (Laginja) Nichols, son Brian Laginja, son in law Mark Nichols, daughter in law Tiffini Laginja, grandchildren Austin, Matthew, Jenna, Lauren, Shelby, Sydnee, Grant and great grandchildren Hunter and Madison. Tony's pride and joy were his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his extended family in Europe and his passion was baking his beloved Baklava that was cherished by everyone. He will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him and sharing in his many adventures through his stories, warm smile and gentle touch, but most of all "Dad" "Papa" "Grandpa" "Zupe" will be missed by his family.
