Barbara Jean Schmitt

Barbara Jean Schmitt of Chico passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 13, 2020. She has been a Chico resident for 35 years. Barbara was born January 25, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Hilda Johanna Demke and William Gustav Schoenborn. She married Richard Joseph Schmitt in Chicago on February 2, 1952. They moved to California, then to Florida, finally setting in California permanently in 1966. She worked in banking for many years. After she and Dick retired to Chico they spent their time fixing up their forever home. Barbara loved to garden, and in her earlier years she loved to sew, making many of her daughters' clothes and clothes for their Barbie dolls. Barbara loved reading, birds, flowers, wildlife and music. She treasured her grandchildren. Barbara was full of wisdom, kindness and laughter, and was a friend to many. She is survived by two daughters, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick and a son, Richard. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in Barbara's memory. Barbara was so loved, and she will be forever in our hearts.
