CHARLES THOMAS "CHARLIE" ROSA
January 14, 1936 - August 8, 2014
Resident of Chico Charlie, born January 14, 1936, in San Francisco to parents Charles Joseph Rosa and Palmera Rose Morano, passed away Friday, August 8th in Chico, California, from cancer. He is survived by his partner of 12 years, Marba Hazzard; daughters, Karen Rosa-Springs and husband Richard Springs, Debbie Rosa and husband Tim Kleffman; grandchildren, Nathaniel and Elizabeth Montiel, Dylan and Jordan Springs; great-grandson, Antonio Gonzales; brother, Edward Rosa and wife Carmen; and nephews Tony and Joey Rosa. Charlie attended Mission High School in San Francisco. After high school he worked as a cabinet maker, later becoming a fire fighter in San Mateo and then San Francisco. He retired from the San Francisco Fire Department (Engine 41) in February 1979. After Charlie's retirement, he was able to devote his time to his 2nd career as carpenter and contractor. He was an extremely gifted craftsman with an eye for architecture and design. His legacy lives on in homes that he designed and built in Jackson, Redding, and Redwood City, California. Charlie enjoyed music, collecting antiques, cooking, and reading. He was a banjo player, avid banjo collector, and had recently taken up playing the ukulele. In addition, Charlie loved cats and had many cat friends during his lifetime. In his most recent years, he devoted his time to restoring and building model A cars. He earned a reputation and respect in the car collector community for the design of his 1930 Model A Speedster. He had amazing energy, creativity, a spectrum of diverse interests, and will be remembered and missed by many. His memorial service will be private.
