Clark Adams
Feb 11, 1935 — Aug 3, 2016
Clark Napier Adams 1935-2016
Born on February 11, 1935 in Oakland, California to Napier Adams and Susie (Bunker) Adams, Clark left us tragically on August 3, 2016 on Keefer Road in Chico, CA. Clark had a very busy and fulfilling life full of adventures. He graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland, CA, obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno and a Master's degree in Physical Metallurgy at University of Idaho. He was on the technical staff at Novalynx Corporation in Grass Valley, CA before retiring in 2011 and was a former Research and Development Manager at Helipot Division at Beckman Instruments prior to that. He also worked as Vice President of Engineering for several other engineering firms. He travelled around the world for work and pleasure, visiting many different countries including France, Switzerland, Belgium, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, to name a few, also speaking French and Spanish fluently. He has visited many areas within the United States but Nevada (and watching UNR Football games with his family) held his heart. Clark was a member of Organizations including the UNR Alumni Association, IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), Reno 356 Porsche Club, and the Shasta Porsche Club of America. Clark always believed in checking off his bucket list each day you live and did just that. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially sailing, driving his Porsches, hiking, skiing, climbing, gold panning, going on road trips, rock collecting, visiting nude beaches, exploring ghost towns, and finding natural hot springs. He loved teaching and learning about geology and mining history was a favorite. Taking his granddaughter to horse lessons over these last 4 years always put a smile on his face as those two had a special bond. He loved date nights and road trips with his wife Rita and watching his 49ers play football on Sundays with Rita, Nikki and Mia. Some of the highlights in his life were the engagement of his daughter Nikki to Brian Rose in 2015, the birth of his granddaughter Mia Ella born in 2006, watching his daughter play soccer for over 15 years, marrying his lovely wife Rita Garcia in 1982, crewing on a yacht in the Transpac race to Hawaii in 1979, crewing on another sailing race from Newport Beach, CA to Mazatlán in 1978, meeting Rita on a racing yacht in Newport Beach in 1975, his invention of weather stations at Weatherport Inc., and being a member of the team that invented liquid crystal display (LCD) at Beckman Instruments. Clark is survived by his wife of 34 years Rita Adams, daughter Nikki Descombes, granddaughter Mia Ella Descombes and sister Althea Newhouse. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Clark's memory be made to Enloe Foundation, 249 W.Sixth Avenue Chico, CA 95926, Attention: Cancer Compassion Fund.
