Daniel Edward Beltran

Sep 15, 1942 — Dec 7, 2015

DANIEL E. BELTRAN Daniel E. Beltran passed away Monday, December 7, 2015 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, he was 73. Danny was born September 15, 1942 in Vallejo, California. He grew up there, graduating from Vallejo High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army as their 'Radar" for 2 years, and then in the Army Reserves for another 2 years. On returning to Vallejo, he worked at Mare Island Shipyard. Through a mutual friend, he met his future wife Charlene. They were married November 25, 1967 and just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Their daughter Denise arrived in their lives March 13, 1968. With numerous friends calling Chico home, and Charlene's time at Chico State, they decided to move here and settle down. Danny loved the atmosphere of the town, and the warmth of the community. They lived near Bidwell Park, and some of his daughter's favorite memories are riding their bikes through the park, swimming in the creek, and rafting from 5 Mile in Upper Park down to Annie's Glen. Danny had a love of wood working which was demonstrated early on with his talent at making wooden toys. He would sell these at various craft fairs, but his home base was the "Wolery" toy shop in Toad Hall in downtown Chico. Of all his toys, he was best known for the Hedgehog, the Baby Chick, and the Chicken. So popular were these toys that he was nicknamed the creator of the "Chico Chicken" by the then small local publication the "Butte County Bugle". He continued to be a part of the downtown community, moving from toy making to carpentry, working on the renovating of such businesses as Madison Bear Garden, Zucchini and Vine, and Nantucket. Danny spent many years working with numerous contractors, later on working at Sheraton Property Management, from which he retired a few years ago. This provided him plenty of time to enjoy his love of duck, pheasant, and dove hunting. Danny was a member of the Eagles Aerie #218, involved in helping out at Bingo nights, and assisting at various fund raisers. San Francisco was a favorite vacation destination for both he and his wife. They also shared a love of the ocean, frequenting Fort Bragg. He was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, and during football season you could find him catching a game out at Scotty's. He also greatly enjoyed baseball, and was an avid Giants fan. Danny was a devoted husband, great dad, and generous friend. He had a warm, jovial spirit and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Charlene, daughter Denise, and brother Paul Gomez. He is also survived by nieces Diane (Dave) Chaffm, and Kathy Therol, nephews Andrew Therol (Sheila), and Gregory Paul Gomez, and several cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Guadalupe Beltran, and sisters Grace Therol, and Henrietta Beltran. Per Danny's wishes, there will be no formal service. An informal gathering will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Danny's name to Butte Humane Society, California Waterfowl Association, or Butte Home Health and Hospice.
