Dorothy Bedford

A Funeral Service for Dorothy Bedford, 87, of Chico, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Trinity United Methodist Church. She died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at a local hospital after a brief illness. Dorothy was born December 10, 1921 to Kenneth and Elizabeth Rose in Stockton, California. As a young child, her family moved to Paradise. At that time, without a high school in Paradise, Dorothy was bussed to Chico where she graduated from Chico High. She also graduated from the Golden Empire College of Commerce where she met Arlie Bedford of Chico. They were married in Reno, Nevada on Oct. 23, 1940. She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the consulting engineering firm of MeCain and Associates and then for NorthStar Engineering, retiring at the age of 72. Dorothy has been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1962. She has been a very active member of the United Methodist Women where she served as the sunshine chair and was in charge of the dish towels for the annual Church Bazaar. She is predeceased by, Arlie, her husband of 58 years; her eldest daughter, Arlien Long; and her grandson, Mike Long. She is survived by a son, Richard, his wife Jean of Rohnert Park; a daughter, Kathy Potts, her husband Neil of Chico; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
