DOUGLAS DAVID CAMPBELL
October 26, 1933 to February 1, 2016
Doug passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Enloe Hospital on Monday, February 1, 2016 at the age of 82. Born October 26, 1933 to Dr. Robert K. and Romaine Campbell in Santa Monica, California, Doug spent his youth in both Santa Monica and Chico, California.
After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War. Upon completion of his service, Doug returned to Santa Monica and married Barbara Sproatt. The couple would return to Chico, then relocated to Red Bluff, California where they raised their family of three boys while Doug worked as a car salesman. After his divorce from Barbara, Doug later moved back to Chico where he remarried, and enjoyed retirement with his wife, Louise.
Early in life, Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family. Later he developed a passion for building and flying RC airplanes. He was always interested in classic cars and aviation. He spent many hours each month volunteering as a docent at the Chico Air Museum. Doug is survived by his wife Louise, sons Jim (Tanya), John (Anita) and Bruce (Danille), brothers John ( Heather), Fred (Lisa) and Brian (Deborah) and sister Joan. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at the Chico Elks Club on Thursday, February 11 at 1:00 p.m.
