Edna Lopez

Jan 16, 1924 — May 6, 2021

The Family of Edna Lopez wishes to let you know she is now safely home in the arms of the Lord. Edna was born January 16, 1924 and left this earth for her next chapter on May 6, 2021. Beautiful daughter of Altagracia and Emilio Razo, wife of Raymond Lopez (deceased in 2009), mother of Barbara (Rodger) Hughes, grandmother of Mark (deceased in 2020) and Doug (Maria) Benamati, great grandmother of Jeremy and Danielle Benamati, great great grandmother of Christian, Kaden (deceased in 2008), Isaiah and Riley. She was a beloved sister, sister in-law, aunt, godmother and friend. Edna lived her adult years in the Glenn, Willows and Chico communities of Northern California. She made the transition to living in Carson City, Nevada the last 12 years of her 97 year long life. Upon the passing of older siblings, Edna became the family matriarch; with strength of character, she held the family together as she inspired us all in countless ways. A world traveler, she toured with Raymond, Barbara and family to Mexico and Europe; seeing the sites in Austria, England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland. She also toured the Caribbean Islands and visited Alaska, Hawaii, New Mexico, New York, Texas and Washington. Breaking gender barriers, Edna enjoyed a successful career with the Federal government serving the Selective Service System, the USDA-FMHA and as a Real Estate Loan Specialist. She will be long remembered as the consummate homemaker whether it be gardening, cooking or sewing, she did it all and with such skill and passion that many family members have tried to emulate her. Her green thumb produced magnificent roses, iris', peonies and a variety of fruit trees as well as tomatoes. Apple pie, cookies, tamales and canned salsa, fruits, jams and jellies kept the family's mouths watering — especially during the holidays. Ever the stylish dresser, she used her flair for fashion when sewing her own clothes. Try as they may, family members could NOT beat this formidable Scrabble player! And then, there was the excitement and fun Edna had when dropping a few coins in the local penny slot machines, frequently returning home a winner! This incredibly generous, savvy woman will be missed and never forgotten. While the family mourns her passing, we are comforted knowing her faith journey sheltered her soul and brought her through this world with peace, grace and love. Graveside services will be held at the Chico Cemetery, 881 Mangrove Ave., Chico, CA, Friday June 11, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. A reception to celebrate Edna's life will follow interment. A Rosary will be held on Thursday June 10, 2021 at 7:00 p.m., at the Bidwell Chapel, 341 W. 3rd St., Chico, CA. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home 530-342-3877.
