Elinore Giberson

A Memorial Service for Elinore "Ellie" Giberson, 86, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bidwell Presbyterian Church in Chico. She passed away in peace at Enloe Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012. Ellie was born in Chico on August 15, 1925 to J.G. and Ella Williamson of Chico, CA. She graduated from Chico High School and Pomona College in Claremont, CA. On May 29, 1948, Ellie married Tom Marsh and lived briefly in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and then Yuba City. Elinore and Tom separated and divorced in the summer of 1965, and she moved back to Chico. She married Richard Giberson in 1968. Ellie taught at Bidwell Junior High School and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. Known for her positive outlook, enthusiasm, caring demeanor, and encouragement, she was a favorite with her students. After retiring, Ellie and Richard Giberson built a house at Lake Almanor and lived there for over 20 years, before moving back to Chico in 2001. Ellie was active in PEO and the Bidwell Presbyterian Church, as well as her local bridge club. She enjoyed golf and tennis, and was a voracious reader. Her bookshelves were lined with the classics. Dinner conversations with Ellie always involved classic literature, Greek Mythology, or History, and occasionally, Politics. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Ellie is predeceased by sister, Alice Hutchins; and brother, Gordon Williamson; son, Matthew Marsh, and husbands, Tom Marsh and Richard Giberson. She is survived by one sister, Claudia Steel; three sons, Thomas Marsh, John Marsh, and Luke Marsh, and four grandchildren. Ellie was a loving and encouraging mother and dear friend.
