Francis Theodore Davignon
Mar 25, 1938 — Feb 7, 2021
Francis T. Davignon, or Pete as everyone knew him, passed away on February 7, 2021. He was born on March 25, 1938, in Muskegon, Michigan, and moved to Chico in 1987. Pete is survived by his wife, Vicki Doll, his children Dennis, William, Renee (Fitzpatrick), two sisters Theresa (O'Neil) and Leora (Jensen). His brother Albert and his son, Francis Davignon Jr (Bub), predeceased him.
Pete's professional life took many turns. He was a salesman, promoter, ship captain, newspaper publisher and columnist, corporate executive, manufacturer, entrepreneur, inventor, and business owner. He thrived on new challenges and accomplishing what others didn't think possible. He welcomed each new venture as an opportunity to learn, to teach, and to give back.
Pete played senior softball in Chico for twenty years. After surviving cancer, he noticed that men seldom talked about, didn't ask for help or support. He was determined to show his fellow players that support is available and it is possible to return to normal activities. His latest venture, CAN-Sirs, a cancer awareness program for men, was founded in 2012. By sponsoring softball teams in tournaments all across the nation, Pete reached thousands of men and women, offering his support and encouragement.
Of his time in this world, he once wrote: "I love today because it is good, I remember yesterday for the pleasures, and look forward to tomorrow for it will make me complete and will bring from within unity and peace."
Those who wish can contribute to the scholarship fund in memory of his late son. University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture, Office of University Advancement, 4001 W. McNichols Road, Detroit, MI 48221 (www.udmercy.edu/giving/).
