Helen Standley

d. Jan 1, 2001

Our mother, Helen Standley was born in Lawrence, Nebraska, on October 17, 1925 to Mr. and Mrs. Bangert. She married the love of her life, Dick Standley, and moved to California. They traveled from Los Angeles to Chico with six children in 1961, where they made their permanent home and raised their busy family. Helen and her family attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Chico. Mom sang in the choir and was a member of many groups in the church. She drew much strength from her faith and guided many to the Lord. Mom enjoyed the game of golf, and was active at Bidwell Golf Course. She was a Women's Club member, and in the past had held the title of President. You could find her on the course most Tuesday mornings. Our mom's many accomplishments included obtaining a pilot's license. She really enjoyed flying, and mastered the skills needed to receive her license. Many times you would find Mom and Dad packing up their clubs and flying to a golf course in Shastina. They also flew often to their vacation home in Mexico. For 35 years, Mom with Dad were the owners of and operated Helen and Dick Auto Sales, a used car business in Chico. Mom became an accomplished business woman. Our brother Rick was a strong component in running the business and taking care of mom. As the mother of six children, thirteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren, she was always busy. Her children always looked to her for her wisdom, strength and love. She kept this large family cohesive by her example of unrelenting strong love and prayer. She was a guiding example of how to love one another, especially when busy with a home overflowing with friends and family. Helen Standley was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Standley; her parents, and sister, lnez Cochran. She is survived by her brother, Lester Bangert; children, Deana and Virgil Keener of Bloomington CA, Patricia Standley of Chico, Constance and John Welch of Charlton, Mass, Kathleen and Donald Conner of Oakdale, CA, Richard W. Standley of Chico, James and Corina Standley of Chico, and their families. Helen will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Our Mother now joins our father with their eternal father in heaven. A viewing will be held from 5-8 pm, Monday night July 20, 2009 at Brusie Funeral Home in Chico. A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at 6 p.m., with a private burial at the Northern California Veteran's Cemetery in lgo, CA. For those wishing to honor Helen's memory, the family has requested donations be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Well Ministries, in care of Brusie Funeral Home
