Hortense Ann Barker

Hortense Barker A memorial mass will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church for Hortense Barker 92 of Chico. She passed away on March 23, 2016. Hortense was born on December 16,1923 in Chico to Manuel and Rose Dutra. She attended Bidwell Grammar School, now called the Chico Grange Hall and Chico High School. In 1947 she married John Barker. They were married for 40 years. Hortense worked at C &H Sugar in Crockett and Diamond Match Co. in Chico. She enjoyed working in her yard and in her orchard that kept her going. Crocheting, she made rugs for everyone. She loved going to Butte Meadows. She was very proud of her mother. She told everyone "I live in the house I was born in". She is survived by a brother Adolph Dutra of Chico, daughters Christine Jones and Cynthia Ayres of Chico, a son Tommy Barker of Chico. 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband and a daughter Vicki. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to a favorite charity. She will be laid to rest at Glen Oaks Memorial Park.
