Ivan Nickerson
d. Jan 1, 2001
IVAN EUGENE NICKERSON June 7, 1920 - Jan. 18, 2012
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend, Ivan Nickerson was born in Las Animas, Colo. and was the firstborn and only son of Ross and Mittie Nickerson. He lived a full life of family, friends, cars, airplanes, hunting, travel, gardening, and bbq-ing. Ivan had a very quiet, gentle strength, quick humor, and sustaining love for others that we remember and find as an example for our own life journeys. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War 11.
Ivan was blessed when he married Elizabeth (Liz) Bisset in 1943, welcoming Mary Elizabeth and David in following years. After Liz passing in 1979, he was blessed to have met and married Ann Medlin in 1983.
Ivan is preceded to heaven by his parents, sisters, Arlen Jones and Betty Ayers, his first wife Liz, and his cousin Don Nickerson, who was as close as a dear brother.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ann; children, Mary Elizabeth (Bob) Barr and David Nickerson, Susan (Gilbert) Rodriquez, and Bob (Vicky) Medlin; grandchildren, Kathi (Mark) Chapa, Max Rodriquez, Joel Medlin, Sam Rodriquez, and Braydon Medlin and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and treasured family friends.
The family would also like to deeply thank the staff at Windsor Chico Creek for providing support and loving care through his last months.
We hope to have a "Celebration of Life" at a later date when family and friends can all be together.
In memory, we suggest either a donation to Boys Town (boystown.org), the Cancer Society or your preferred charity. In tribute, we suggest you have a family BBQ with friends and a beer toast.
