Jefferson Cooley
d. Jan 1, 2001
Jefferson Lucien Fortner Cooley, born February 3, 1923, passed away May 10, 2010, at his home, in the presence of family and friends. Jeff was born in Sweetwater, Texas, and raised in Westwood, California, graduating from Grant Union High School, where he was an all-around athlete, and received a football scholarship. He served in WWII in the South Pacific as a radar technician.
Jeff married the love of his live, Euphemia, 63 years ago. They enjoyed dancing, hunting, Blues music, golfing and traveling around the U.S.A. in their motorhome (CB handle WASFUZZ). He was a booking agent for many bands in the area, and has also managed some of his son's bands. Jeff joined the Highway Patrol in 1948, rose to the rank of Sergeant in 1959, and retired in 1977. He was in a number of organizations; the Sirs, Elks Lodge #423, the Footprinters, the VFW Post #1555, the American Legion Post #17, and was President of the March of Dimes. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by wife, Euphemia; son, Steven Cooley; daughter, Joni Keller; granddaughter, Jessica; great-grandsons; Corwyn and Christopher, and their father, Corwyn Banks, Jr. We will all miss his jokes and playfulness.
There will be a graveside service at Glen Oaks Memorial Park on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11 a.m.
