Jere Lang

Apr 7, 1932 — Aug 19, 2017

Jere F. Lang Jere Lang was born on April 7, 1932 to Alphonso L. and Mildred D. Lang. The son of a rancher raising grain crops and a music teacher teaching both piano and organ, Jere was joined in the family several years later by his sister, Patti. Very involved in the family's ranching and farming operations, by the age of 16 Jere was operating as a commercial trucker with two small trucks primarily hauling agricultural commodities to the Bay Area. In addition he graduated from Yuba City High School where he competed in Track. He later enlisted in the California National Guard in 1951 and entered Active Duty in the United States Army in 1953. Soon after he was in Korea and probing for land mines and building roads. He was honorably discharged in 1955. Upon returning home he soon continued his education at Chico State and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. During the same time he built a fast ski boat which was named the "Myassisdragon". He also began working for Bank of America as an appraiser and began a long career in agricultural lending. In 1962 he met and married his wife of 55 years, Jan. Jere loved appraising property and putting together loan packages. He loved to go horseback riding to appraise cattle, drive down a dusty or muddy dirt road and walk a field or fly over land by helicopter to perform his appraisals. He loved the outdoors and farming and he always felt fortunate that he didn't have to hold a "desk" job. Jere found the perfect balance in his career and family life by combining his love of farming and his job and being in a community that he could raise his family in. Jere spent much time with his favorite hobbies. He loved to target shoot and enjoyed being on the Glenn County Pistol League and competing with his son, Jim. Dad loved to tinker with his guns and reload his ammunition for the next competition. He loved to hunt deer and elk and planning his hunting trips each year. Jere also loved to fly fish. As a member of the Chico Fly Fishers Club, he regularly attended outings and held fly tying classes and meetings at his home. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #673 in Durham, he would participate in related veteran's activities. Jere loved to attend the football games of his grandsons or any of their activities and was most proud of their accomplishments. He would always find their strengths to comment on and would recount the game's plays until the next game was held. He loved to read hunting, fishing and reloading magazines and manuals. He never went anywhere without a map and truly enjoyed every moment in the great outdoors. Jere was a family man thorough and thorough. He loved his family and did everything he possibly could to provide them with a comfortable life. Jere never was a man to talk about himself or others. He was a confidant that those that knew him, sought him for advice on a regular basis. His advice always came from his heart. He had an incredible sense of what was right, no matter how much it might hurt to hear his advice, it was always truthful. Jere was an incredible man. He was a man who never backed off from hard work or responsibility. A Korean War veteran who survived mine sweeping, an incredibly giving and supporting son to his parents, a devoted husband and loving father, father-in-law and grandfather, and friend, he always put others before himself. Jere is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Jan, his daughter Gail Nason (Chris) of Arbuckle, his son James Lang (Divina) of Yuba City, and his grandsons, Aiden, Caylin and Ian Lang of Yuba City. May you rest in Peace. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Durham Cemetery on Saturday, September 2, 2017.
