John A. Gray

John A. Gray, Jr. A celebration of John's life will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Chico Elks Lodge. John had a 6 month battle with terminal cancer, and with grace and courage, he passed at his home with the company and love of his family. He was born August 27, 1955 in Denver, Co. to John A. and Mary Ellen Gray. John received a Bachelors Degree in Business from Chico State. He owned and operated Jessee Heating and Air since 1985. He was a hunter and fisher extaordinare, abalone diver and spent many years as an active member of Ducks Unlimited. He spent 12 years sprint car racing with his son Johnny, where they won a track championship at Silver Dollar Speedway in 2004. John was an avid traveler rather solo or with his daughter Katie. And remained a proud member of the Elks Lodge. He will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful, caring, loving son, brother, father and papa. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Ellen Gray and sister Kathleen Gray. He is survived by his father John A. Gray of Chico, son Johnny Gray III of Chico, daughter Katie Ellen Gray of Brooklyn, N.Y., step-son Gary Smith of Chico, step-daughter Michelle Mokres of Paradise, grandchildren Gage and Beau Gray, Mya and Reese Mokres, Dylan, Tyler, Sydney and Kiara Smith, brothers Mark and Michael Gray and his sister Kristine Ann Gray of Durham.
