Jose Collado
Jan 26, 1939 — May 31, 2018
Jose I. R. Collado passed away May 31, 2018 in Chico at the age of 79. He was born January 26, 1939 in Ensenada, Puerto Rico and moved to New York City when he was 7 years old. He left New York City when he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Mather Air Force Base in Rancho Cordova. He married Barbara Maxwell, of Carmichael, March 3, 1965 in Virginia City. She had two children, James and Jean from a previous marriage. They all moved to Chico where Barbara was born and raised and they built their forever house in 1969. Until her death in August of 2011, they spent 46 years together. They spent many hours working on their yard creating a beautiful landscape. Vacations consisted of many camping trips with their children and grandchildren.
Jose started his career working for Tom Bailey, CPA and decided he enjoyed accounting. He took an exam to bypass college and then obtained his Certified Public Accountant license. In 1977, he opened an accounting firm with his business partner Bernie Levine.
Even though Bernie retired in 2011, Jose continued to run the business until this year.
Jose passed his love of learning on to his 7 grandchildren, who have all graduated from college. Jose had many interests including gardening, collecting bird stamps, and woodworking. He loved dragons and reading science fiction novels. He also raised a very noisy Moluccan cockatoo.
Jose was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara and is survived by his children James (Margaret) Maxwell and Jean (Terry) Miller and grandchildren McKenzie (Matt) Feidler, Ross (Laurel) Maxwell, Sam Miller, Clay Miller, David Maxwell, Morgan Maxwell and Michele Le. He also leaves his beloved dog, Abby.
A memorial graveside service will be held at Chico Cemetery on June 6 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your favorite charity.
