Joseph Clinton Goss
June 1, 1936 — January 24, 2021
Joseph "Clinton" Goss
Clinton of Durham, CA passed away on January 24th at the age of 84.
Clinton was born in Chico at the Old Chico Hospital on Wall Street to Joseph and Virginia (Lilienthal) Goss becoming the 4th generation of Goss Family. Until 4th Grade the Goss family lived in Chester, CA where Clinton learned to ice skate on the frozen ponds. The family returned to Durham where he finished elementary and high school. During high school Clint participated in sports, FFA and started his love of cars and machinery. He also participated in the Naval Reserves his senior year and after high school.
Clint was enrolled in the AG program at Chico State where, during a chemistry class he met and fell in love with fellow classmate Jacquelyn. They were married on February 1, 1958, and settled in Durham for their 62.9 years of marriage. They have raised their two daughters Valerie and Tammy, as well Valerie's daughter, their granddaughter, Emily, all growing up in Durham.
As a car guy, Clint owned many vehicles over the years, including a '47 Sedan, a '56 Ford Black Truck and a '74 Ford Bronco. The Bronco provided great trips around the Jonesville area where the family cabin is located. Clint enjoyed many activities, especially those outdoors, where he taught many kids to snow ski, hunt, snowmobile, camp and waterski (keep in mind he was 75 years old at the time). There was always a dog along for the ride starting at an early age with Shortie, Pete, Chubby, Tina, Speckles, and Patches along with one special cat "Blackie"
The family cabin has provided great joy for Clint over the years for summer relaxation, gatherings with family and friends, even the rebuilding of the line shack to the new cabin.
Clint started out his "AG" career working for AO Fenn, Mid Valley Tractor, Owner of Durham Automotive, Llano Saco, McKnight Ranch and back to Mid-Valley Tractor to retire and then continued to work for a few Durham Farmers. He was known as "Clint" to many farmers and he specialized in Big Tractors and harvesters. He enjoyed building custom AG equipment along with his Chicken BBQ used at the Durham Harvest Festival.
He was very proud to be from Durham, and belonged to many organizations that benefited the community he grew up in, including the Durham Volunteer Fire Department, as well as being an active member in The Durham Rotary (50 years); he was also a member of The Chico Elks Lodge for over 50 years. The Jonesville/Butte Meadows area also benefited from his membership in the Butte Meadows Hill Slider Club (snow groomer) and Jonesville/Butte Meadows Association. He enjoyed the "Durham" Breakfast group for the talking over of current events or just some of the old stories.
Before and after retirement Clint and Jackie enjoy traveling to Tahoe, Canada, Alaska, New Zealand, California and Oregon North Coast area, but most of all spending time in Jonesville. Clint went on hunting trips to Idaho and a white water rafting trip in Oregon, resulting in the beard that stayed.
Clint leaves behind his wife Jacqulyn, daughters Valerie and Tammy, granddaughter Emily and Sister Carolyn Taylor (AZ). He was uncle "Clint" to Steve, Shelly, Jennifer, Kara, Kayla, Collin, Jill, Sara, Beverly, Ron, Steve, John, Boyd, Joseph, Paul and their Children. All will remember Clint as great man that touched each of them in a special way.
At this time no service is planned. A celebration of life will be held in the summer 2021 in Jonesville. Please visit www.brusieth.com.
