Leland Mcgarity
May 31, 1940 — May 7, 2017
LELAND GLENN McGARITY, 76, of Chico, CA, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Enloe Hospital in Chico. He was surrounded in love by his wife, daughter, granddaughter and friends. Leland was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on May 31, 1940, to Ester and Ethel McGarity, and the baby brother to Esteraleta, Joe, and Gene. He graduated from Red Bluff High School in 1959. After high school, he worked as a truck driver for close to 45 years hauling locally and across the U.S.A. He retired in 2002 from Consolidated Freight. He never met a stranger, and made friends wherever he went. In 1992, he married his hunny-bunny Elaine Freitas in Hawaii then built a loving home in Chico, CA. He enjoyed talking politics and nutrition with any who wanted to share their views. A closet musician, he could play by ear any instrument he picked up. Piano and guitar were his favorite. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and shopping, but he mostly enjoyed being with family. Leland is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Elaine McGarity, his two daughters Jennifer Goff and her husband Terry of Oroville, CA and Nicole Saccoccia and her husband Raymond of Chesapeake, VA. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kendra of Chesapeake, and Samantha and Matthew of Oroville, and his brother, Murphy Eugene McGarity of Anderson, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at Brusie Funeral Home on Monday, May 15th from 5:00-8:00 pm. A graveside memorial will be held on Tuesday, May 16th at 10:00 at the Glen Oaks Cemetery followed by a reception at noon at La Hacienda on the Esplanade. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Rifle Association and the continuing support of Donald Trump.
