Mary Wiebe
Sep 17, 1945 — Jun 18, 2017
Mary Margret Pivniska Wiebe, 71, of Chico, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 18, 2017, of natural causes.
She was born on September 17, 1945, in Vallejo, California, to Charles and Esther (Maier) Pivniska. The family moved to Lucerne and Mary grew up with her younger brother, Charles Pivniska Jr. (Butch), swimming and fishing in Clear Lake.
Mary graduated from Upper Lake High School in the class of 1963. She matriculated at Sacramento City College, where she met Mike Wiebe of Chico. On June, 20, 1964, she and Mike were married. Mike and Mary had two children, Nancy Ilene Wiebe and Michael Robert Wiebe II. They lived in Sacramento and Citrus Heights, then moved to Chico to help Mike's parents. After Mike's untimely death, Mary and her children moved to Upper Lake, but she returned to Chico in 1996.
Mary was an avid reader and needleworker, and a formidable Scrabble opponent. A country girl at heart Mary loved fishing, hunting, and riding horses and was a 4-H leader and a member of the Butte County Mounted Sheriff's Posse. She loved to visit with friends and was always cheerful and kind.
She is survived by her son, Michael R. Wiebe of Sacramento, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Esther Pivniska, in 1973; her husband, Michael R. Wiebe, in 1974; her daughter, Nancy I. Wiebe, in 1989; and her brother, Butch Pivniska, in 2007.
A graveside service will be held at Upper Lake Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.
A reception will follow at the Pivniska home in Upper Lake. Interment will be at Upper Lake Cemetery.
Brusie Funeral Home of Chico is in charge of arrangements.
